Amarr roller replacement in San Diego typically runs $130 – $260 installed, parts and labor included, and we complete most swaps in under an hour. We stock Amarr-compatible rollers on the truck, so if your door is grinding, sticking, or shaking on the way up, we can usually handle it same day. The most common call sounds like this: the door still opens, but it sounds like a shopping cart with a bad wheel, and it’s gotten louder over the last few weeks. That’s the roller telling you it’s done.
Here’s the quick version of what’s happening. Your Amarr door rides on rollers that sit inside the vertical and horizontal tracks. When one starts to fail, the door drags, the opener works harder, and other parts wear faster. You’ll notice it before it becomes a bigger repair, and that’s the good news. The bad news is that ignoring it will eventually strain the cables and hinges, and that’s when a $180 roller job becomes a $400+ multi-part repair.
Which Amarr Models This Applies To
We replace rollers across the Amarr lineup, from the Lincoln and Heritage series up through Classica, Olympus, and the heavier carriage-house doors. The compatibility question that matters isn’t the model name: it’s the roller stem length and wheel diameter. Most Amarr residential doors use either a 2-inch or 3-inch nylon wheel on a 4-inch or 7-inch stem, but we’ve seen doors on the same street in San Diego with different specs because the builder bought in bulk from different batches.
The reliable way to identify what you need is to look at the side hinge where the roller attaches. Amarr stamps a part number on the hinge leaf on many models made in the last 15 years. If the stamp is worn off, the stem length and wheel diameter tell us the story. We also know which aftermarket equivalents work on Amarr track systems: the track profile, not just the roller, determines fit. Some cheaper universal rollers have stems that are a hair narrower than the hinge tube, and that slop translates into a door that rattles on every cycle. We don’t install those. The nylon-bearing rollers we carry are the same spec as the OEM parts, and they hold up better in San Diego’s coastal air than the steel-bearing originals on older doors.
One note for clarity: Bramwell Garage Doors San Diego is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Amarr, and we don’t claim to be. We stock Amarr-compatible parts, and we service Amarr doors all over San Diego because they’re common here and the parts are predictable when you know what to look for.

Signs Your Amarr Roller Replacement Is Failing
- Grinding or scraping as the door moves. The roller wheel is usually worn flat on one side or the bearing inside has seized. A seized bearing means the wheel skids instead of rolls, and that friction grinds metal or nylon against the track.
- The door shudders or lurches mid-travel. One roller has failed while the others still roll smoothly. The door gets pulled unevenly, and you’ll see it jerk at the same spot every cycle.
- The door is noticeably louder than last year. Nylon wheels eventually lose their outer ring, especially on doors that face direct sun in places like Clairemont or El Cajon. Once that ring cracks, the hardened core underneath rattles against the track.
- The door sags or leans slightly to one side when halfway up. A roller stem can bend over time, letting the door drift off-center in the opening. That drift also throws the track alignment out gradually.
- The door binds or stalls at a specific point. A cracked wheel can catch the track seam and stop the door. The opener will usually reverse, which is its safety response, but the underlying problem is still the roller.
One evening, Marcus Ellery drove out to a house near Mission Valley where the door would only open halfway before stopping. The homeowner assumed the opener was failing. It was actually a fractured nylon wheel on the second roller from the bottom, snagging the track joint every single time. The opener reversed because it thought something was blocking the door. Fixing the roller cost a lot less than a new opener would have.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Diego, roller replacement on an Amarr door runs $130 – $260 installed. The spread comes down to how many rollers we replace, the door’s size and weight, and whether we’re also correcting what caused the failure, like a hinge that’s pulling away from the panel or a track section that shifted. You’ll get a written price before any work starts. No exceptions, no door-step changes. The number on the invoice is the number you heard first.
That price includes the parts, the labor, lubrication of the rollers and hinges, and a check of the door balance while we’re there. If the door is out of balance, we’ll tell you and quote the spring adjustment separately if you want it, but we won’t sell it as part of a package just because we’re already in the garage. The roller work itself carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, in writing.
For reference, if we find something beyond the rollers, here’s what other work typically costs in San Diego: cable repair $155 – $295, track realignment $140 – $285, full garage door repair $175 – $710.
DIY or Call Us?
Roller replacement is one of the safer garage door jobs, but only if the roller is in the vertical track. The vertical section carries no spring tension, and a roller there can usually be swapped by leaning the door back slightly. But if the failed roller is in the horizontal track or the curved transition point, you’re working near the door’s balance system, and that changes the risk level entirely. Torsion springs hold enough stored energy to cause serious injury. Most of the DIY roller videos online skip that detail. We won’t.
What you can safely do is inspect and clean. Wipe down the tracks, look for cracked nylon or a wheel that’s visibly not spinning, and note whether the door is heavier on one side. That tells us a lot before we even arrive. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to remove a roller from the horizontal rail or anywhere near the spring. We see a few of those go sideways every year in San Diego, and the repair bill ends up higher than a roller replacement would have ever been.

FAQs
Steel-bearing rollers on older Amarr doors typically last 5 – 7 years in San Diego, and nylon-bearing rollers last 10 – 12 years.
Coastal moisture affects any metal bearing, but the bigger factor here is heat. Doors in full sun, like those facing east in La Mesa or Santee, expand and contract daily, which accelerates roller wear. If your door is more than 10 years old and still on the original rollers, you’re on borrowed time.
No, a failing roller is a replace-only part. Once the nylon wheel is cracked or the bearing is seized, there’s nothing serviceable inside.
It’s a friction part. Like a wheel bearing on a car, it either rolls smoothly or it grinds, and there’s no in-between fix. The good news is that roller replacement is one of the least expensive jobs we do, and the parts have improved meaningfully over the last decade. Call (619) 374-2463 if your door is making noise.
Most roller replacements take 30 – 60 minutes from start to finish, including lubrication and a balance check.
If you get a longer appointment window from a company, that’s usually because they’re not carrying the right rollers and need to run to a supply house. We stock the Amarr-compatible sizes on the truck, so there’s no second trip.
Yes, we carry the common 2-inch and 3-inch nylon-bearing rollers with matching stems for Amarr residential doors.
If your door needs a less common spec, we can get it same day from our San Diego suppliers in almost all cases. You’ll know before we leave the driveway what the time and cost will be. Call us at (619) 374-2463 and a live person answers.
